Encrypted Backups in WhatsApp Beta for iOS

Apple makes a great fuss about how much they cherish their customers’ privacy. And they have developed a slew of features designed to assist them maintain and enhance that privacy and security. Had it ever brought to your attention that, despite all of Apple’s assurances. The iCloud backup service does not actually provide end-to-end encryption? But now WhatsApp beta for iOS provides the end-to-end encrypted backups.

Although the corporation claims that backups are encrypted, it has discovered that they are not in fact encrypted from beginning to end. As a result, Apple truly has the encryption keys in its possession. And if they so desired, could decrypt the contents of your backup. The good news is that your WhatsApp conversations will have shielded from this in the near future.

According to WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS has end-to-end encryption for backups stored in iCloud, which has discovered by the company. This places the decryption keys in the possession of the account holder, in this case you, ensuring that in the event that someone gains access to your iCloud backup and is able to decode it, your WhatsApp conversations have not compromised.

WhatsApp first announced intentions for this feature back in September. And it appears as though they are already beginning to test it out on users. The exact date on when the feature will have released from beta is still unknown. But it could be something to look forward to in the near future.
