Facebook encryption can prevent child abuse, the NCA says

According to a top investigator, Facebook proposal to enable encryption across all platforms may prevent the identification of up to 20 million child abuse photos each year.

Rob Jones, director of threat management at the National Crime Agency, said social media companies. Goal of implementing end-to-end encryption would prevent employees from accessing “smart information”. And that would allow them to rescue people who commit violence.

The warning that will alert privacy campaigns comes as the government continues to oppose Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s plans to expand encryption.

Last month, Facebook expanded the ability to use end-to-end encryption for voice calls and video calls on Messenger to prevent the child abuse reports. Meaning no one, including Facebook, can see or hear what has sent or said.
Speaking to reporters, Jones said police rely on “a very fast and dynamic law enforcement response”. Additionally To online sexual assault content that allows officers to develop suspicions, beliefs or possible causes. If the present data security method has updated to meet the description, “this content will have removed”. “All of this advise, however, is hazardous,” he said.

As a result, the [perpetrator’s] conduct will continue — no one is claiming otherwise — but the reporting will be different.

According to the study, many users on Facebook have suspected of having a sexual interest in minors. Because of the IQ level and interruptions. We would not be able to acquire a search warrant, go through the door and save a child.”

In 2020, the technology industry submitted more than 21 million child sexual abuse reports worldwide identified on their platforms to the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). More than 20 million of these reports came from Facebook, the NCA said.

Home Affairs Minister Priti Patel will step up her international anti-encryption campaign on Wednesday. As she meets her G7 counterparts over the next two days, with security and cybersecurity dominating the agenda. At the G7 ministerial meeting, he will also set up a fund to combat sexual abuse of children on the Internet.
Tech innovators and experts are being urged to apply for government funding to show internet tech giants. And how to make their products better and not increase the risk of their platforms becoming a safe haven for child molesters.

An official from the social media giant stated, “Child abuse and exploitation has no place on our platform. And Facebook will continue to lead the industry in finding new techniques to prevent, identify, and address it”.

As a result, several services utilize end-to-end encryption to safeguard their users from hackers and criminals. This is a long-term project, and we have rigorous security procedures in place.”
