Iran’s newly elected most conservative Ebrahim Raisi took oath as President

The most conservative Irani leader Ebrahim Raisi took oath as president of Iran. A country whose hopes of overcoming a severe economic crisis hinged on a revival of a nuclear deal with world powers.

In his inauguration address, Raisi said the new administration will try to lift “stressful” US sanctions but “will not link the country’s standard of living with the wishes of foreigners.”

“Following the people’s choice, I entrust the wise, tireless, experienced and popular Hojatoleslam Ebrahim Raisi as President of the Islamic Republic of Iran”, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“Solving economic problems takes time and cannot done overnight,” he said.

Raisi replaces moderate President Hassan Rouhani. His notable achievement was the nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in 2015.

Raisi has to lead negotiations to revive the nuclear deal, which the US had unilaterally withdrew with tough sanctions.

The 60 years old also faces warnings to Iran from the US, UK and Israel over last week’s tanker attack.

The former chief justice has been criticized by the West for his human rights abuses.

Raisi’s presidency will construct power in Conservative hands following his victory in the 2020 general election. It has marked by the disqualification of thousands of reformist or moderate candidates.
