Nuclear control agreement with Iran keeps hopes for negotiations alive: IAEA

Talks in Vienna between Iran and world powers had stalled. The head of the IAEA stepped up and raised hopes to restore the nuclear agreement with Iran known as the JCPOA. Iran and the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency mutually announced that the IAEA will continue to monitor Tehran’s nuclear activities.

In a joint statement heads of IAEA and AEOI welcomed the spirit of cooperation and mutual trust. Iran’s vice president also welcomed the good and constructive negotiations with IAEA and repeated the technical character of the agreement.

Under the compromise nuclear agreement with Iran, the surveillance equipment remains under the agency’s control. The data is in the possession of Iran and may not be deleted during the term of the agreement. Initially agreed upon for three months, the compromise has extended for another month and then expired on June 24.

Although, Iran has refused to provide real-time footage of the cameras and other surveillance devices installed at this location by the UN agency. Without announcing next steps, the IAEA said in a statement that Tehran’s actions have seriously undermined its inspection and surveillance activities.

Now after Sunday’s meeting, IAEA inspectors have allowed to repair the identified devices and replace their storage media. These are keeping under the joint seal of the IAEA and AEOI in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
