The company may be preparing to provide cashback in exchange for utilizing its products and services. According to a tip from WABetaInfo, who identified references to the planned functionality, this is the case.

It appears that consumers would receive cashback in the next 48 hours if they make payments through WhatsApp Payments. Given that the function appears to be in beta testing, there isn’t much information available about it at this time. Also, as the article points out, this feature appears to be limited to UPI Payments for the time being. And making it unclear whether or not it will be expand to include other platforms in the future. Or whether they are only testing it with UPI Payments initially.

It’s important to note that, for the time being, WhatsApp Payments is only available in India and Brazil. There is no indication that there are plans to spread the service to other regions of the world at this time. The mobile payments field is quite competitive. So breaking into other more established markets may prove to be a significant challenge.
